M.D. Sass Announces the Hiring of Shimeng Yu as Senior Equity Analyst

We pleased to announce the appointment of Shimeng Yu as Senior Equity Analyst, who joined the equity team in early April. In her new role, Shimeng will support the firm’s equity research team as a generalist seeking long-term investment opportunities across sectors.

Shimeng brings over a decade of investment experience across prominent hedge funds and investment banks. Most recently, she served as a Senior Analyst at Balyasny Asset Management, where she evaluated investment opportunities for a $2+ billion financials portfolio. Her work encompassed deep fundamental analysis, financial modeling, macro research integration, and thematic screening, supporting the full investment process from idea generation to position sizing and thesis development.

Prior to Balyasny, Shimeng held analyst roles at ExodusPoint (Westwind Asset Management) and Point72 Asset Management, where she covered a diverse set of companies in fintech, information services, and TMT sectors. She began her career at Goldman Sachs in the Global Natural Resources Investment Banking Group, where she contributed to several landmark transactions including the DuPont spin-off of its performance chemicals segment and the $8.1 billion merger of Nalco and Ecolab.

Shimeng graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, along with a minor in Statistics.
